GRE

The term GRE refers to ‘Graduate Record Examinations’. It is a standardized aptitude test with a pre-defined syllabus. It is one of the most commonly accepted admission examinations for various graduate as well as business school programs in most of the English speaking countries, especially the US. GRE is distributed in two categories namely GRE General Test and GRE Subject Tests. In the former category, quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, analytical writing skills and critical thinking are measured while in the latter, knowledge of a certain field of study is measured. Hundreds and thousands of graduate school applicants take the GRE from approximately 160 countries. Aspirants who want to pursue a specialized master’s course, a master’s degree, MBA, MS, doctoral degree or MEM can sit for this test.

GRE is conducted by the ETS (Educational Testing Service). GRE is a multiple-choice and multi-stage test and has been designed in such a manner that a student’s logical and intellectual abilities can be calculated. GRE question types are based on the following skills:

  • Verbal Reasoning: This section measures a student’s ability to analyze the relationships among elements of sentences and identify relationships among words and concepts.
  • Quantitative Reasoning: This part assesses a student’s problem-solving ability and is mainly aimed at fundamental concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis.
  • Analytical Writing: This part assesses critical thinking and analytical writing skills.
